get trained to fight back with hands off nyc
Upcoming trainings

Join a virtual training to get plugged into business canvassing with Hands Off NYC! You only need to sign up for one training. Both will cover the same content.
Our business canvassing program engages in outreach to local businesses so that they and their employees are prepared for ICE raids. We make sure they know their rights, are connected to community organizers in the area, and have the tools they need to stay as safe as possible. This is sustained by our incredible coalition of over 250 organizations, labor unions, faith leaders, and activists who have canvassed over 10,000 businesses so far.
Working in pairs, block by block, we meet with owners, managers, and employees at their work sites. We use multilingual, legally vetted materials to ensure they know how to protect themselves now, what to do if ICE comes, what to do in case of detentions, and where to find additional resources.

Join Hands Off NYC and the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) for a free 90 minutes virtual Know Your Rights training where you'll learn what to do if you see immigration agents — at home or in your community — and how to protect yourself, your loved ones and your neighbors. We'll cover your constitutional rights, how to spot ICE and other federal agents, how to respond to ICE encounters, what to keep on hand, and how to mobilize your community.
This is not a training series - but the same training offered once a month. You don't need to attend more than 1 session (unless you want to).
No legal knowledge required, and all are welcome. Whether you're cheering for your team or showing up for your neighbors, come ready with your questions.

Join and Grow the Hands Off NYC Ambassador Program!
If you are ready to prepare yourself and your neighbors to stand up as unified New Yorkers into the midterms and beyond, join our ambassador program.
In this training, we’ll prepare you to train more of our neighbors on the risks we’re facing, what we’re doing in response, and how they can join the fight.
You’ll leave the training with concrete steps to bring to your neighbors and grow our collective strength across NYC. And once you’re an Ambassador you’ll be part of a citywide web of trained, connected neighbors ready to move together when it matters.
What to expect: 📅 Monthly Training of Trainers — every last Thursday of the month 📍 Virtual gatherings You'll leave with training materials and messaging to run your own neighbor sessions 🔁 Report back at the next Training of Trainers to share progress and get support 🤝 Ongoing support via monthly check-ins and a Signal thread
New York City is big - it will take many of us to ensure every borough is equipped with the knowledge and connection to stand in their power and face what’s to come, together.

Want to do your part to ensure the upcoming primaries for our midterm elections? We know there is growing anxiety around our elections and a strong desire to understand what can be done to protect our democracy—to ensure that every eligible New Yorker can cast their ballot and have it counted.
Join us to become a trained volunteer for poll monitoring! With us, you will learn how to support your neighbors—and yourself—by understanding your voting rights, de-escalation techniques, and how to respond to issues at the polls.
Hands Off Our Vote is a coordinated effort led by Common Cause New York and partners across the state.
We are far from powerless in protecting the lifeblood of our democracy—the right to vote. But it will take all of us doing everything we can: strengthening our laws, encouraging participation, and supporting voters at the polls. See you at the training!
This training is for new volunteers and experienced organizers alike. You’ll be able to take these materials and train your own community after participating.

Indicating your interest in training gives you first-access to our upcoming trainings with limited capacity. These include, but are not limited to:
Know Your Rights and Spotting ICE - In private and public spaces, for citizens and non-citizens alike, how to identify and report ICE agents
What’s happening, and how can we fight back? - What history tells us about this moment in time, and those in power who are making it happen
Creative and Direct Tactics - Learn how to get creative with the tactics you and your group are using to fight back. History shows us a wide range of options that live in between those we think about most.
Support Roles in the Movement - There’s a place for you in this movement, even if it’s not in the street. From mutual aid to legal support, de-escalation and marshal training to making art, and more.
Leadership Development - We need a movement full of people ready to step up, and help lead. Trainings in things such as facilitation, decision making, and conflict resolution can make this easier to do in democratic and equitable ways.
We collect your borough so we can connect you with trainings in your borough, as our trainings are often designed on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis.
