join us for a COMMUNITY WEEKEND!

february 20th - 22nd

Hands Off NYC Community Weekends of Action are designed to celebrate the joy of community, distribute useful information, and help us build a culture of defiance across the city.

Whether you’re an individual hosting an event for the first time, an organization wanting to get involved, or looking to attend an event and get involved locally: this weekend is for you!

For past community days, we have had a wide range of creative events hosted by Hands Off NYC members and coalition partners. From whistle distribution to business canvassing, comic making to a Mice vs. ICE Nutcracker performance. Your creativity is an asset!

For this round of events, we are encouraging participants to consider partnering with a mutual aid group, or finding a volunteer opportunity, near you. All events are welcome, as long as they are not fundraising for any political party or campaign. We keep us safe!

TYPES OF EVENTS

  • One of the most accessible options include picking up materials from our hubs around the city and passing them out to ypur neighbors. We will have tens of thousands of whistles, know your rights cards, and other materials that you can pick up and distribute.

We have not yet saturated this city with the knowledge and power that keeps us safe. Meet your neighbors, hand out materials, and build relationships with our community weekend.

  • Mutual aid is a critical part of community care and resistance. Consider a partnership with a local volunteer organization for your community weekend!

The list of mutual aid organizations in New York City is long, and your neighborhood’s needs may be specific. Try looking at NYCares, or looking up mutual aid groups in your neighborhood.

Reach out, ask what supports they may need, and tailor your event accordingly!

  • If you’d like to host a different kind of event, we’d love to have you involved! Our strength as a movement comes from creativity—reaching new communities, trying new approaches, and empowering people to contribute in the ways they do best.

Past events have included whistle kit distribution, crafting circles, comic book creation, dance performances, playdates in the park, and more. Any event that builds community and raises awareness helps strengthen our collective movement.
